Is there a common technique for facelift procedures?

There can be two ways to look at the technique for facelift procedures. In the conventional sense, there is only one common technique for facelift procedures. The basic approach to the surgery remains the same, where plastic surgeons elevate the underlying structures, including skin and muscles. Thereafter, they lay the skin back in its place. The skilled surgeon ensures that the scar remains as hidden as possible.

However, the approach to a facelift differs when a plastic surgeon tends to make the surgery more invasive. The surgeon may choose to go deeper into the underlying structures of the face. This is done with an intent to make the results last longer. But not all surgeons will follow this approach, even though the objective is laudable.

An experienced plastic surgeon knows that the patient’s safety comes first. There can be no room for compromise on this front, even though other things get compromised in the process. Therefore, an experienced surgeon will have a more conservative approach to the surgery, keeping the patient’s safety as the topmost priority.

In a highly invasive facelift procedure, there is a risk of causing permanent damage to the patient. The deeper the surgeon dissects into the underlying tissue, the greater the risk of complications. Such complications may occur only in one out of 100 cases, but that makes the whole effort not worthwhile. There is no point in subjecting the patient to such risk in a cosmetic procedure.

There are other less invasive facelift procedures available, such as the ‘String Lift’ procedure. This is becoming a popular procedure nowadays because it is non-invasive and considerably less expensive. The recovery period is also relatively shorter.

Sometimes the patient may choose to go for only a part of the facelift, such as eyelift or brow lift procedures. So there are very individualized procedures available. The choice of the right procedure depends on the needs of a particular patient. So in that sense, the facelift techniques and procedures may vary from one patient to another.
