A mammogram is not required prior to a breast lift because it is strictly a surgical skin procedure. Since the surgeon will not make any cuts into the breast gland or alter it in any way, a mammogram is not considered necessary. In a breast lift surgery, the skin is tightened to a certain level making it feel like a new, smaller skin brassiere. It doesn’t entail making any cuts into the breast gland or changing its structure. The only change which takes place is the repositioning of the nipple, making the breasts higher and perkier.
Even though the federal government authorities have downgraded the recommendations for a mammogram, most surgeons disagree with it. They are of the opinion that every woman should have their first mammogram at the age of 40, the next one at 45 and after the age of 50, one at least every year. Whether a patient has undergone a breast lift or not, the importance of a mammogram remains the same.
