A breast lift is performed using various techniques and incision patterns. Every patient has a different degree of sagging breasts, different size and position of nipples and the skin elasticity also varies in each case. Therefore, the choice of the breast lift technique depends on the needs of each case.
After the patient has been sedated, the first step is to make the incision. An incision may be made around the areola complex, or around the areola and vertically down from there to the crease underneath the breast. In some cases, the incision may also be made horizontally along the crease of the breast.
After the incision has been made, the surgeon lifts the underlying breast tissue and re-shapes it to enhance breast contour and firmness. The nipple and the areola are placed proportionately higher. In some cases, the size of the areola may also be reduced. Thereafter, the surgeon excises just the right amount of excess skin. This ensures that there is no loose skin left and the elasticity and smoothness of the skin is retained.
The incisions are closed once the procedure is completed. In some cases, incision scars may be visible on the breasts. But with skilful plastic surgeons, the scars will be minimal and in most cases, will fade away with the passage of time.
To understand the results of breast lift procedure in simple terms, it is like changing a 40 EE bra size to a size 34 C. This is done by removing the excess material from the 40 EE bra and then sewing it back together to make it a 34 C size. This is exactly what a breast lift surgeon does. He removes the excess skin and sews the breast back together so it becomes a new, smaller and better shaped breast. It is quite like making a smaller skin brassiere so that the skin holds up the breasts firmly.
