The scars in the case of a breast lift procedure will primarily depend upon the type and extent of the surgery. The procedure will vary in terms of invasiveness, size, shape and condition of the breasts, and the needs of the patient.
There are basically four different kinds of breast lifts. If the patient has opted only for a nipple lift, she can expect just a half-circle scar over the top of the areola. That is the junction between the dark skin and the light skin.
The second type of breast lift is called the “lollipop lift.” In this case, the skin beneath the nipple is removed and tightened up. The scar winds up exactly in the shape of a lollipop. The third type of breast lift is the circular breast lift. In this case, the surgeon will make a dough nut sized incision around the nipple. Once the incision is made, he will excise all the loose skin and bring the big circle down to the small circle.
The granddaddy of all breast lifts is the “Anchor Mastopexy.” In this case, the scar is formed in the shape of an anchor. There are four layers of sutures that hold the scar together. When the surgery is performed by an expert, the scar will remain as thin as a thread, and will disappear within six to seven months.
A skillful and experienced surgeon can ensure minimal scarring and excellent post-operative results. Therefore, patients must remember that key influencing factor that will determine the final outcome in the case of a breast lift is the capability and art of the operating surgeon.
In a situation where the patient is left with considerably noticeable scars, it may necessitate secondary surgical or non-surgical procedures to reduce the effects. But in the hands of an experienced surgeon, such an eventuality is unlikely to arise.
