Is there anyone who is not a good candidate?

There are plenty of things to consider before deciding whether to undergo breast augmentation surgery. While many surgeons suggest that anyone with sagging breasts is an ideal candidate, this is often not the case.

Individuals who have bodily infections or severe metabolic diseases are not good candidates for breast augmentation. Such diseases may include ones like cirrhosis or hepatitis. Patients who have medical conditions which can compromise the healing process make bad candidates for elective surgery such as breast augmentation.

Teenagers are not good candidates for breast implants. This is because their breasts continue developing into and throughout their early twenties. This makes it impossible for the surgeon to determine whether breast augmentation is a good option for the youngster. Also, teenagers tend to be dissatisfied with their appearance for various reasons which disappear as they mature physically and emotionally. In the case of teenagers, breast implants might be a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

Others who are not good candidates are those who have unrealistic expectations. These may be individuals who are generally dissatisfied with their bodies. This may also include women who want to go through the procedure in order to satisfy others. It is likely that such people will never be fully happy with the post-surgery results.

Women who are planning to get pregnant in the near future are bad candidates for breast augmentation. Going through a pregnancy after breast augmentation will bring about additional stretching in the breast skin. This may force the individual to consider going through the entire procedure again. On the other hand, they may have to live with the realization that the breast augmentation procedure they went through has gone to waste.

Also, patients who are planning to go through a strenuous weight loss program cannot benefit from breast augmentation. Losing a large amount of fat after breast augmentation can cause the breasts to go back to their drooping state. Patients will lose all the benefits of any previous breast augmentation procedures.

It is important for candidates to look at their present medical conditions and their future medical aspirations when considering breast augmentation. Doing this will help patients derive the most benefits from this surgical procedure.
